NMobile: Speed Traps app good for
This app helped me find traps in my area. And the map works perfectly.
This is WAY better than Trapster. Just being able to scroll wins this app over Trapster. Sure there arent many users, but buy this and itll pay for itself the first time it warns you. Really need an iPhone 3G with GPS for it to be helpful though. Great app, hope more people use it.
took it for a test drive...passed my test. As complicated as a doorknob. Interface is adequate. This app has been worked on to satisfy the buyer. Just needs more people input at this point.
Very nicely designed and an indispensable tool for any driver.
I just downloaded the latest version of Speed Traps and I can already tell it works just as described. Theres a police cruiser that consistently sets a trap outside my neighborhood pulling over unsuspected motorists that drive [speed] around the bend. I load up Speed Traps on my iPhone and, sure enough, he/she is there right now; the location is very precise. This app is a worthwhile investment. $2.99 is well-worth it, even if it just saves you from one speeding ticket, which will run you quite a bit more.
NMobile: Speed Traps is excellent and getting better every day. I give it 4 out of 5 stars because it relies on the iPhone GPS capability which I still think is a bit hit or miss. However, NMoble uses GPS, Microsoft Maps and the iPhone time signal fully to identify and record speed traps. I regularly go for a Starbucks coffee and there is a section of road between my home and the popular coffee shop where two different police departments lay in wait for speeding motorists almost every day. This fantastic little app alerts me to potential speed traps in the area by time of day and location. As more and more people in the area note where the police cruisers are and when, this app just gets better.
I disagree with a previous and negative review about "jerkiness." The app is very polished and the rendering is super smooth. The interface is minimalist, intuitive and easy to use--a key to keeping the database fresh and growing.
This spam-free app is a great value for $2.99. I highly recommend this app, which is only get better when Apple releases iPhone 3.0.
Some bad moments
Boy do I feel stupid wasting my $10. No other users in my area I think Im only one who bought this app. Then I found Trapster on app store which is much better app, Trapster already has 100,000 active iPhone users plus other kind of phone, lots of traps / activity in my area, and Trapster is free. Duh.
I havent used the alert mode and actually driven around with the app. Yet I have been using the browse feature just to find if any are registered on the highway I drive on every day. After searching I didnt find any thing. I went onto the njection website to see the full map and they are marked with red and yellow dots. I am hoping you update the app so it also shows these dots as apposed to the small picture.
Other then that the app seems great. Awesome idea!
Several issue with this app
1. No way to correct information about a red light camera except to post to the forum
2. Microsoft Virtual Earth is a CPU and battery hog.
3. More MVE problems - alignment with GPS is often wildly inaccurate
4. Alerts are inconsistent...sometimes you hear about a trap 5 miles away, sometimes a quarter mile (trap filter at 100%)
5. Alerts arent direction sensitive...you will get an alert even if you arent traveling toward it.
6. Red camera database very inaccurate in my area...lights that are not red light cameras are listed, lights that have cameras are not.
Save your money until this app matures.
None of the speed traps between my house and my office were marked including at least 5 that are quite well known by locals and have cops posted at almost weekly. I dont have any problems with the application itself but beware that at least in my area on my commute that this application is worthless for finding the speed traps that I know about and there are ones marked that I have never seen a cop at that I drive by daily and based on that I dont have much confidence the ones I dont know about are marked either. Use this application with extreme caution and dont assume speed traps are marked.
This application has hardly improved over its life. It remains jerky and is totally unresponsive when adding traps. Developers have their work cut-out for them to get this right.
Just down loaded and the program constantly has my location off by 2 miles.
